Beyond the Confines ...
of the day to day life of an average American housewife

a place of intrigueing new friends ...
a world of feelings, hopes, dreams and wishes ...
this is a place for me
... and for you
~ Hi ~
Anyhoo, Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours! (And we miss ya just a wee bit, too!)
. . It is good to be reading writings from you again. . & I am very glad that your grandbaby is doing very very well
. . WOW
That would be wayyyyy tooooo much for me to handle! I am glad it all turned out well in the end. .& what a birthday to remember!
We've gotten aquainted with several of our neighbors at the cabin on the river, especially when we hung our hats there for two weeks while hubby was on vacation early in May.
Most of the people live there year round. And several of them are retired single men. Someone has a dock with a large sign stating
women over 65 welcome!
Really, like hubby always says, you can't find a much cheaper place to live. The biggest downfall, of course, is the fact that there's no access to city water, and the well water is undrinkable. The bathtub, shower, sinks & toilet are all orange with rust, & I can't wash clothes up there, as the towels I washed turned orange! But I don't think we have our water softener adjusted correctly yet.
We have a water cooler up there which holds 5 gallon jugs of drinking water we bring from home & that works really well for us.
Anyway, from what little I know of them, the neighbors all seem like pretty good people. Some more friendly than others, but all are cordial enough. A couple of them seem to do not much more than sit back & tell tall stories, or cut the grass on their riding lawn mowers all day long. And nothing seems to be done without a cold one in hand, & a few dozen empties laying nearby.
The way my grandpa always saw it, cold beer & tall stories are what the river is all about, bless his heart!
People always seem to be "tinkering" with mechanical things too. Which probably comes from boredom. They always seem to be "fixing" some rusty old broken down something or other.
And you rarely see anyone up there who is not without a dog close by his or her side.
Which brings me to the ...

This is Tuffy
I took this picture while I was in the pool late Sunday afternoon before heading back to the city.
Tuffy is is a very well mannered Yellow Lab, I think, who is VERY devoted to his person & the only time he comes around is when his person is away from home. Then Tuffy will wander down to our place & sit & wait for him to return, rarely letting his gaze wander from the road.
He started out plopping down at the edge of our property whenever his person took off in his truck & would be polite when I'd go over to pet him, but wouldn't budge from his spot until person returned, all the while gazing at the road. And he can always hear the truck returning long before I can see it.
One day Tuffy had a rolled up newspaper in his mouth when he plopped down at the edge of the yard, & he was so protective of it that when I started to approach him, he got up & trotted off, with paper in tow, about 50 feet & plopped back down. He wasn't about to let anyone get his persons newspaper
Over the weeks, Tuffy has come to feel more comfy with us being there & now comes & lays on our deck to wait for his person to return.
He's a good ole dog & I look forward to seeing him on my visits up there!
. You know I loved THE
to no end but there is NOTHING like the loyalty of a Lab as Tuffy is demonstrating.
